Limiting it to just the final moments of each half just makes it seem, to my mind, even more artificial.
In terms of the shot clock, I would like to see the college game increase it to 35 seconds although 30 seems okay. I like strategies in basketball, and to me increasing the shot clock would also increase strategies on many levels.
More time would allow teams to hunt more for a good shot, require defenses to play good defense longer, manage time clock, etc.
The thing I've been thinking about lately is the 3 point shot. I've always liked the 3 point shot. I think it's opened the game up and like increasing the shot clock I think the 3 point line has increased strategies. What I don't like about the 3 point shot is that it's turning the game more one dimensional as teams rely more on it at the expense of the inside and mid range game. Maybe there's a way to have it all? Maybe eliminating the 3 point arc in the corners and increasing the distance outside might slow down the over reliance on the 3 point shot?
Would 30 feet be too much? Would it make the 3 point shot a lesser used strategy? It would still be there to use but would require better shooters and maybe be a shot with a lesser percentage of success. Or, maybe it's best to just leave well enough along.
