technique, basic individual fundamentals, putting on socks properly (very important to prevent blisters) are what good coaches can teach to just about any recruit--regardless of what type of offense that coach runs. However, a coach can't recruit/bring in a bunch of "bricklayers" and expect them to become great shooters/scorers for a system that needs good/great shooters and strong creative finishers at the hoop to make the system work. Those types of players certainly wouldn't fit into a system like that UCONN runs.

As far as shooting goes, all a coach can do is teach the player the proper fundamentals of shooting but it's on the player (motivation, natural abilities such as touch, work ethic, etc.) to put in the work (thousands of reps with attention to detail) in the quest to make himself a good or even great shooter. Many players are able to succeed but many also fail and never become good shooters/scorers.
