...clawing over each other to take the UK job?

UK clearly pays the most.

But they're not. And many seem to have no interest in the job.

That's because I think money is just one factor. It's the biggest factor. But it's not the only factor.

Coaches, like many people in life, are sensitive to risk and pain. Being the hc at UK is like being POTUS. How many people are crazy enough to think that they can do the job, and meet expectations, and make people happy, and succeed where the previous guy failed?

Both jobs can get you killed, or worse. It can ruin your reputation. Amirite, Billy Gillispie?

"Don't follow a legend" is the adage. It's interesting that there was a lot of interest in the bammy football job, even though the pundits said no one would want it. I think football coaches realize that it takes MASSIVE infrastructure to support a program that needs 100 players to succeed, abs very few places allow the tail to wag the dog like bammy does.

Bball, otoh, does not have the university by the balls the way that football does. Or the fanbase. I think fans have less patience for bball coaches than they do for football. They'll give a fb coach 2 years now (used to be 3). Bball coaches get one year.

The UK job is tough. Cal got 40 guys drafted. And didn't sniff ncaa success for the last 5 years. If Cal and that talent can't get it done, what chance do you have?
