If you take 10 3s and shoot 30% you still score more points than you taking the same 10 shots inside the arc and making 40% of them. If you shoot 35% on 3s vs 45% on 2s the advantage gets even bigger. A team that shoots 40% or better from 3 is sacrificing points every time it shoots a 2 as they would need to shoot at least 60% to score the same points.
