This high school tournament at McBride HS in Long Beach was supposed to feature Jason Crowe, Tounde Yessoufou, and Brayden Burries. Yssoufou was a no-show, but the other two didn't disappoint.
Crowe is a 2026 PG who 247 lists as the #5 player in the country. He seems unstoppable on offense, with almost unlimited range from distance, and the ability to beat his man off the dibble. According to 247, UCLA is the only team listed as "warm".
Burries, is a 2025 6-4 CG, but I think he is destined to play PG. They rank him #11, but I think that underrates hims. He is a great outside shooter, and is very skilled at getting past his defender with his dibble. The other team collapsed on him every time he drove into the paint, and he did an outstanding job of finding open guys and giving up the ball. He is a great passer. He almost never forced a shot. We don't need a guard for 2025, but it would be hard to turn him down. And he is also a great athlete.
Part of the fun of these events is seeing players you haven't heard of. Perhaps the best was Burries teammate 2025 G Isaac Williamson. He is an outstanding defender. He had three steals in the first three minutes of the game. Ha also made 7 threes in around 10 attempts. Some smaller program will get a great one. He has been offered by the likes of Cal Baptist, Nevada, and Pepperdine, but I suspect he will be playing for a major progam in a couple of years.
Speaking of Pepperdine, I got to say hello to Tyus Edney, who was sporting Pepperdine gear.
Keep an eye on Crowe's teammate David Conerly, a 6-1 sophomore. He looks very talented. I can't find a ton of info on him, but there is a YouTube video which calls him "the best 8-year-old player out there." He's improved A LOT since them.
