I have seen no discussion of this.
The gift was made long before there was a 405 freeway or a Wilshire Boulevard. My assumption is that the land for the veterans home, the veterans medical center, and the veterans cemetery were all built on the gifted land.
Looking at a map, it looks like the western boundary is San Vicente, et al and the eastern boundary is Veteran Avenue. The north end runs to Sunset, and the south end is at Ohio.
Which makes me very curious about the land on the east side of the 405 below Wilshire. There are federal office buildings there. It's not hard for me to imagine that this land was also part of the initial gift. Sure, there are some VA offices there. But also the FBI. And at least in the late 70s, there were offices for the military services liasons to the film industry. Is all that stuff primarily for the benefit of vets? Also, a sports park and maybe an LA DWP facilty.
