What I hear you saying is similar to what others are saying - he needs to get out there, take control and run the team. Force the action.
NOT start hunting his shots but make things happen. Last year - [NOT a direct comparison as this team is so different from last year's] - he and his teammates were best when he would drive the ball in to the open spot aside the upper areas of the key. He's deadly with the shot from there if they leave him open so they have to collapse on him and with the shooters we have this year, all sorts of options open up (whereas last year we had Lazar and if that didn't work then Mack had to try to make something happen).
When Dylan plays aggressively, the opposing defense has to deform from its approach and make sure they stop him and the exposes them to Bilodeau, Clark, Stefanovic, Dailey, Johnson, hopefully Harris - all our options.
I hear what you're saying and I agree with you - i expected Dylan to be the team leader on offense - NOT the high scorer but the guy running the offense. You can build any and all options off that. But when Dylan plays passively - just moving the ball rather than being the first threat on a possession - we come out and spread around the perimeter, the defense spreads around to defend us. If Dylan just passes the ball around, the defense can do what they've prepared to do - they're at their best. When the PG penetrates, he threatens them with a pull-up high percentage shot. They are forced to break formation to cover that threat at which point options open up - good options -
He can complete the drive and force them to move guys to cover him inside which frees any of our bigs to be open under the basket; he can score the ball himself; he can pass out to a teammate in the corner or out on top. Dylan is quicker than most opposing PGs and he can hit the open three if they play off him, can hit the midrange jumper and he can finish - and he's a real threat with his pass out of the action.
(And having Kobe Johnson there in the half court - our best passer and assist guy - just multiplies our options.)
Good post - thanks!
