just my own thoughts on her - she is a GREAT recruiter; players love her; she's a national team coach which brings its own benefits to her college program (ask Coach K at Duke); and I think she's a good coach. She's yet to prove she can be a great coach, however, an elite coach, The recruiting makes hers an elite program but when SC landed Iriafen from Stanford to pair with Watkins, they became the focorite to prevail as the b best team in LA - and in the B1G. We're #5 nationally - a terrific ranking - but it illustrates the question - last year's team was excellent and wound up short of the final four. This year's team should certainly make the S16 and is currently favored to reach the Elite Eight - but NOT to make the Final Four.
When Louisville put on a drive, there was abnormal illustration of a comparison with the men's team's coaching. Mick Cronin would have clamped down hard slowed the game and 1) made it super difficult for the opponent to get good looks at the basket while 2) working things to get his own players a good look most every time down, Cori's team still strikes me as just continuing to play in such a situation, The players no doubt enjoy that but is it the mark of an elite coach?
Jake is right - any number of schools - with good programs - would fall all over themselves snapping her up in a heartbeat. I'm just hoping to see her late game control and focus continue to become more and more polished as time passes
But yes, she's our coach so three cheers for her and onward and upward for the program!
