Re: the offense, we seem very predictable. Overload the left side. If that bogs down, pass to a wide open guy on the right, who has been standing there for most of the play getting cold. Mick's been doing that for a while. The guy on the right used to be Singleton.
Mara: He seemed very mis-used. Early in the game, we got burned a couple of times when he was hedging, and couldn't get back when they attacked the basket. He's 7'3" for heaven's sake. If he's hedging, you can pretty much count on him not getting back if they immediately attack the basket. And, on offense, he was usually on the perimeter setting picks. If that's how Mick is going to use him this season, he should just go ahead and plan on entering the portal. I'm hoping that Mick adjusts to what he can actually do and plays him closer to the basket more. And, I'm hoping that the 7 footers in the Big10 don't have Joseph's agility.
The short of it is we were playing a team that was starting 4 returning guys. 3 of them have 2 full seasons playing together. We are taking a bunch of guys that have never played together, and a couple of guys that have, but aren't often on the court together, and trying to make a team out of them. You take 10 new faces and throw them into a blender, it's going to be quite a while before you get a smoothie. To echo what MH said, this team ought to be a whole lot better in February than they are now.
It's going to be similar to last year. We're not going to play like a Tournament team until at least the second half of the season and going into the Conf. tournament. Hopefully we can turn it around sooner, and hopefully when it clicks, it really clicks.
The announcers said sc was Dent's dream school. Don't know why they didn't take him. Everyone else probably knows this stuff, but I didn't, so here ya go.
