We are dominating the lesser teams with the press, but the offense off of the pressure is THE major difference from last year and is the thing which will set the ceiling for this team. The defense (as expected from a Cronin Team) will establish the floor, but the halfcourt execution and shot-making, especially with Andrews out, is not what it needs to be... yet.
And the "yet" is understandable, both with all the new guys, but also the increase in using our depth finally, and that will take some time for the players to adjust and learn to play with one another well on the offensive side.
But, even when we had a short bench with good scorers, Cronin's halfcourt offense struggled a LOT and was characterized by these scoring droughts, especially against the stronger teams, even with Jaime/Tyger/et al.
So, we are definitely a work in progress, both offensively and defensively. We will definitely need to keep the press/pressure defense going all year, and not become a halfcourt team on both offense and defense, as we have done so often in the past under Cronin. Right now, the halfcourt offense is comparable to last year, and that's not a good thing (tho the points off turnovers are making what would be grinder games we could - and would - easily lose last year into blowouts, which is good, if we can keep it up).
