Has anyone noticed that for the last several years, we have a great deal of difficulty inbounding the ball from behind our basket at the baseline?
For those of us who were around during the Wooden years, you may recall that our players lined up in a straight line of four near the block. The opposition would defend on both sides of our line. At that moment the player inbounding the ball would slap the ball, and in an instant, our four players moved to designated areas around the basket while blocking out some of the defensive players. Where upon the inbounder would move to an uncontested area to take the shot or pass it off to an open man whose defender had been blocked out by another teammate.
I'm sure there is video available showing how it was run. I once asked the late-great Bill Walton about this and he said that they worked on it alot in practice and that it was "a work of art" by Coach (Wooden).
Maybe Cronin needs to look at it before we are called for five seconds at a crucial point in a game.
