The other thing about our halfcourt offense is that the ball still sticks on the perimeter a LOT, just like last year.
I'd love to see a chart which shows our offense with paint touches, vs when the ball never goes into the paint.
When the ball gets to the paint, the defense collapses and you've either beaten it for a layup, or you've probably got a wide open shooter for a 3. But if you don't break down the defense by getting the ball inside, even for just a kickout, shots get MUCH harder.
In watching other CBB games, I see teams routinely manage to drive for open layups out of the Halfcourt offense. We rarely do, and it almost ends up looking like we're playing against a Cronin Defense when we're on offense - we're so afraid of making the turnover that our defense strives for, that we never really attack the basket in the halfcourt.
A bit of this is carry over from last year's offense, where we were so focused on Bona, but also, Mara and Bilodeau have much better hands, and are much better passers than Bona. I think Kyle is too, but haven't seen enough yet. But I thought we'd have people who could drive for layups more - Mack still does (he usually misses the layup, but draws the contact), but Skyy Clark is the one I expected more from offensively blowing by his man, and maybe Perry (still evaluating him).
