Could remain in contention for stupidest comment of the year until the very end.
"You gotta give him credit for his desire to win?" What NoW?
Please if you will point our a single coach in basketball or really any sport at the college level that doesn't want to win. How about a single player that doesn't want to win. . .
Do we have to give credit to every bad coach, bad player, bad performance, bad result, because underneath it there is a desire to win?
Cronin was hired and is being paid a lot of money not for his desire to win, but to coach and ACTUALLY WIN games irrespective of desire. I desire to win the freaking lottery, are you going to give me credit for that? I'm not going to give him credit for doing a very poor job of the one thing he is being paid a lot of money to do, which again, is leading UCLA's Basketball program. He did an absolutely horrible job last year and everyone was willing to write it off as an aberration, but guess what, here we are again, whole new lineup that he picked and raved about, went on and on about how many scorers there were on the team, guys that were tough and great defenders, high basketball IQ guys, guys that cared and loved to play the game. So tell me, what happened? What is the one common denominator for all these guys who are no longer tough, no longer care (are delusional), no longer can play offensive to save their lives, and are lost on Defense? What could it possibly be?
And I'll say this, Mick Cronin's program is where good scorers and shooters go to die. You want to neuter an offensive talent, give him some time with Mick and it is almost guaranteed to happen.
