Took down Iowa last night 99 to 89. Defense held Iowa to their BIG 10 conference leading scoring average of 89 points:-))
USC looks like a different team than earlier in the year with impressive wins over Illinois and Iowa in their last 2 games. Last night they had 3 starters with over 20 points and another starter with 18--that's what I call "balanced scoring on steroids". You don't see that often with any college team.
The leader was Claude, their 6'6 PG from Xavier who had 25 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists followed by 6'7 Saint Thomas with 24 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists including 3-4 threes (team made 10 of 15 threes).
Claude is not a volume three point shooter but I haven't seen a team yet (in the 4 games I've watched USC play) that can keep him out of the paint either scoring, drawing fouls or distributing to an open player (10 of 12 free throws last night and 89 of 116 in their 17 games this season). He's certainly one of the best PGs in the country, IMO.
Good rebounding too outrebounding Iowa 35 to 18. They constantly attack the hoop with strong penetrators. Not a lot of plays just some really athletic individual playmakers.
It will be interesting to see how UCLA does against Iowa this Friday and later against the Trojans on the 27th.
