Themes of this one have been PSU led by Campbell who has 12 points doing all they can and the Bruins missing lots of three point attempts. But the Bruins defense began to click - Kiki Rice making steals and breakaways with great step-through finishes.
PSU 30, UCLA 44 at the half.
Difference for the Bruins was all defense and superior quickness ('cept for Campbell). PSU with 11 TOs and Bruins also with 9 ORBs. 20-4 UCLA run last few minutes of the half.
Jones had a three (was one of three attempts) but took some bad shots and turned it over on a bad pass as well - so she got to sit awhile. Jones can do really great things but she is so frustrating at times.
PSU's post is 6'6" and she's a horse - very big but also quite heavy, Betts can step right around her to score. She has three PFs already.
Bruins exploded late - last two minutes - behind Betts.
Betts 12 points, 7 RBs and 4 blocks at halftime
Dugalic 9 points, Aarnisalo and Rice 6 each, Gardiner 5
Jaquez 3 assists (and 2 RBs) Aarnisalo also 3 assists.
We're 2-14 from three and 55% on FTs - rust showing there.
But shooting comes and goes but defense can always been there.
Winning the "brutal math" - winning on transition and causing PSU turnovers - the Lady Lions' [what they call themselves - it's written on the backs of their jerseys] weakness - caused their collapse against #4 SC the other day also.
