overtime, as the Ed O'bannon clone from Minnesota makes a 35 foot desperation three (with the game tied) as time expired in the OT (84 to 81). I told her it was the way Gonzaga normally beats UCLA. Minnesota, even though they were 0-6 going into this game, matched Michigan's physicality and actually looked like a better team than some of the ones in the conference with slightly better records.
The O'bannon clone was lefty 6'11 Dawson Garcia who had 27 points and 12 rebounds and moved with the strength and agility of O'bannon before Ed was injured. Plus Minnesota's two guards had 20 and 22 points with 7 threes between the two of them. Michigan played a sloppy game (Golden's worst game of the season with 6 or 7 bricks near the hoop that he normally makes). It was also the turnovers and missed free throws near the end sealing their fate. Based on their record, I had previously considered Minnesota a "gimmie" for the Bruins but now I'm not so sure. Garcia will be a serious load for them to guard as he is good at driving, midrange and from the three.
I hadn't seen Minnesota play a full game this year and was surprised as hell at how good they played and the quality of senior Garcia and their two senior guards. Hard to figure how they have such a bad record. Had to make my wife a banana split to cool her off.
