On my TiVo at home, I can easily do that sort of thing. My preferred way is to just record 30 minutes of the alternate Channel, such as FS2, ESPNews, or even ESPNU. I could also do that on the old DVR that I had from Charter/Spectrum. But the new DVR from Spectrum doesn't allow precise time settings like that. Anyway, because I am out of my house due to the Altadena firestorm, I have to be careful about how I use my friends' DVR. Theirs also won't record specific times, so I can't just manually set a time. For example, if FS2 is broadcasting a 1-3 hour program, I can't record just that first half-hour of our scheduled game-time, and I can't really take up the whole DVR to accommodate. My solution for last night's game was to record the rebroadcast today at 10:00 a.m., so I can watch those first 10 minutes and then delete. Then I can go back to my live recording from last night on FS1.
