We know CMC can coach offense - we saw it during the FF run where the offense was absolutely incredible with great shot-making and execution all over.
BUT... his pattern is all about spending just about 100% of his coaching on defense first, and the offense doesn't get the same attention outside of avoiding turnovers being the #1 point of emphasis.
As we've seen the past 2 years, this takes months before he starts looking at the offense.
I would love to seem him achieve more balance there early in the season, but it worked the FF year, and it has been a key factor in our resurgence lately.
The galling thing is that it wouldn't take much effort to achieve a significant uptick in offense the first couple of months - just an emphasis on a couple of ways of breaking down defenses to get easy shots.
to me, that's paint touches, and paint touches (either via dribble or pass) do require some turnover risk acceptance, and that's a huge reason why our half court offense, especially early in the season, is mostly passing the ball around the perimeter, passing up man post entry passes, and pick and roll, and leads to a lot of late clock shots, and or shot clock violation turnovers.
