that facing a learning curve as he went up to the next level, he lost his confidence. Another could be that as a freshman he was physically over-matched and expending more energy to keep up. He could have been more fatigued at the line. Fatigue can make cowards of us all and poor free throw shooters as well. You're right, changing conditions can have an effect on play.
