If Alford had stayed, he'd have coached the exact same roster that Cronin inherited, which got to a Final Four. I give a LOT more credit to the architect of that roster than to the guy who only got there because Juzang caught fire.
Let's keep in mind, too, that Cronin's team was TERRIBLE that season and barely even made the tourney as an 11 seed.
