I've been puzzled for some time because it appears that aspects I prioritize as a sports fan, specifically head-to-head victories and conference performance, are not ranked as they deserve. Instead, metrics like the margin of victory or defeat relative to pre-game expectations seem to take precedence. I can't understand this perspective. To me, a loss counts as a loss and a win as a win, regardless of whether the outcome was a blowout or a narrow escape. A team doesn't earn extra standing points for dominating an opponent! This is why I believe Michigan has been underestimated; they secured numerous close victories.
On the other hand, the Bruins were negatively impacted by poor losses against teams they were favored to beat, particularly Rutgers and Minnesota. Losses to North Carolina and Rutgers although Quad 1, also seemed to hurt.
