Her halftime adjustments are terrific. Absolutely spot on.
But i posted quite early that Betts could not be running out defending opponents at the three point line leaving the paint undefended, wide open for Richmond to exploit. And i said at the time it was a shame the necessary adjustments wouldn't be made until halftime.
I'm sure that's not always a fair criticism, but the key adjustments in our games just don't get made until halftime at least most of the time. In-game adjustments are important. Heck, it took us two and a half games to make the necessary switch in how we defended Juju Watkins. Perhaps it's supporting her players or perhaps her over confidence in their abilities or just poor evaluation of how really exceptionally good Watkins is, but insisting on trying to guard her one-on-one, adjusting by simply switching which player does the solo guarding, cost us two games and was looking to cost us a third by halftime in the game for the B1G championship. She still had already scored 18 points by halftime in that third game before we FINALLY starting attacking her with the double as well as bumping her whenever she made a move with the ball.
So yes, her halftime adjustments are elite (and she has the elite talent to make them work) but questions about her in-game adjustments do remain valid, imo.
