I think the Bruins could use 2 more guys - preferably another post/big forward and another wing/guard. There are still some good players available in the portal and also some serviceable ones as well.
I read that there's very little money left in the kitty. I also read that there may be some efforts being made to raise more money. I also read that UCLA and Cronin may be waiting for some sort of legislation that may reduce the asking prices for transfers which may put UCLA back into some sort of operating mode. I'm not sure how any of that would work and how it would take effect, but that's what I'm reading.
So, if Cronin is waiting then that implies that he indeed sees a need or desire to get more players. If that's true then we can assume that Cronin is not done yet.
Is anyone hearing anything that could cast any kind of light on any of these questions - is Cronin through, is he waiting, is he looking for a post and a wing, is more money coming?
Right now UCLA has ten players with a few walk-on types. The ten guys can be placed in the five positions giving Cronin, on paper, a complete starting five and a complete second team. Theoretically that would give UCLA some depth, covering al the bases, and with the flexibility of some of those players, in terms of multiple positions they can play, Cronin is more than covered in terms of that depth.
Is the ten he has now enough? Are the Bruins covered in case of injuries? Assuming there are no major injuries, is it smart for Cronin to be betting on Booker transforming himself into an effective post player, betting on Dailey to reinvent himself into an effective 3, and counting on the untested Brown and Jamerson being able to produce effectively off the bench and Williams being able to defend the 4 position? To my mind it would be prudent to get more money and hire some more help - bigger guns who will come in with more of a chance to hit the ground running and be more of a sure thing in terms of helping the Bruins, folks like RJ Luis or Cedric Coward or Darrion Williams, or Keonte Jones, or Corey Washington.
