I think the money issue

does change the whole thing. Someone like Cooper Flagg is the rare exception. Even "can't miss" guys can come in and need more than one year to contribute. Flagg being the exception is that he was a "can't miss" guy who came in and was actually a "can't miss" guy.

It's almost impossible to know who are the one's who are going to be those exceptions. And all 5*'s are going to require lots of money even without knowing if they'll produce. So my way of thinking is why bother. The idea of going after the 4*'s or maybe even some 3*'s just makes more sense with how things are right now.

If I were coaching college basketball right now I might even forgo all the time and resources required to pursue high school kids and concentrate more on transfers. I think Cronin should still be out there establishing relationships with high school players, not to recruit them, but to know them better when they eventually enter the transfer portal. At least at that point one knows more fully what they are recruiting.
