It's a good question.
I got the impression that Cronin talked a good deal with his father. I remember the father cautioned about trying to force Aday to do too much too soon. And yet, the opposite concern seemed to lead to his breaking with UCLA and moving on. Too bad - seemed like a nice kid.
We often hear the expression about a recruitment becoming "a circus." That covers a lot of territory but I get the impression it's most often a reference to the parents as well as to very spoiled kids, but then you hear about the "possies" and that includes the HS coaches, friends, other relatives and the agent(s).
I think a key skill a HC must develop is reading the room in that regard - who is going to influence this recruitment and how much. Cronin has long used his reputation as a hard-nosed coach to ward off kids who feel too entitled about themselves and who therefore wouldn't be a very good fit for his program.
