Vlad Goldin and Danny Wolf were hardly "raw products" when they transferred to Michigan.

Goldin, of course, played for May at FAU, after transferring from Texas Tech. He improved as a sophomore and a junior, but his per possession numbers in his last two seasons were pretty much the same as his junior year. He actually regressed a little at Michigan playing against tougher competition. And he went undrafted, which is unusual for a talented big man, until you realize he's already 24 years old.

Danny Wolf didn't develop under May at all. He was a known quantity when he transferred from Yale. And his lone season in Ann Arbor was pretty much the same as his last season in New Haven.

At FAU, before Goldin, May had big men Karlis Silins and Aleksandar Zecevic. You haven't heard of them because they didn't do much in college, and have been bouncing around the Euro leagues without much success.

May likes big men, no doubt, but he has very little demonstrable success developing them, certainly much less than Darren Savino, Cronin's long time assistant and big man coach.

I hope Mara does well. I have nothing against him. But it's going to be up to him and how hard he wants to work.
