The varsity practiced on the main court while the freshmen practiced on the end court separated by a curtain. Gary Cunningham was the coach of the freshman team. They got Jay Carty, who played for Oregon St. and had experience coaching big men as his assistant. At 6-8, they needed him to scrimmage against Alcindor.
