it appears that Cronin inserts Williams into the game when he needs to "goose" his team to rebound more effectively. Also, when the Bruin defense is giving up too many points in the paint.

Williams is a limited but solid player. He rarely is out of position. He plays hard. and he doesn't shy away from contact as is evidenced by his rough charging foul. He's one of the Bruins' toughest players and I believe Cronin uses him in that light.

He can score on occasion, doesn't back down on defense, and goes hard after rebounds. I think he is an essential if limited part of this team. I believe he could start for some lesser teams or teams that have a lot of scoring threats but need some toughness. That could be UCLA if they had quicker players in other positions who could play a more complete effective game, but that's not the case. They already have plenty of potentially effective scorers.
