His teams always looked well coached and were almost always competitive. Like you stated, he didn't have the ability, due to lack of an institutional cachet, to bring in top level talent on a consistent basis. He, again IMO, got a lot out of his players. IMO, Oregon State is making a big mistake. With Tinkle they will almost always have a competitive team that will sometimes excel. Tinkle, as well, seems like a "straight shooter" who sometimes can bring in an occasional really good player. With that and how he can coach up the kids he does get he would probably take the Beavs to the tournament on a regular basis or at least be in the conversation - just not every year. A place like Oregon State can hardly ask for more and certainly could do much worse. Even though I'm a huge proponent of striving for better, there's also, as well, a lot to be said about knowing who you are.
