Those were two of Tinkle’s toughest seasons while Tyler was there. But as I mentioned earlier, by that point, it was already apparent that Oregon State and Washington State had effectively been left without a true conference home. Historically, both programs operated at a disadvantage in the Pac-12 Conference, but they could at least point to the opportunity: you might not be at one of the league’s flagship schools, yet you’d still compete against them regularly and gain national exposure. Once that selling point disappeared, it’s fair to ask what they really had left to build around. We’ll see how things unfold for both programs in their new conference situation.

As an aside, I’ve always thought Corvallis is a beautiful place, a true college town with a great feel to it. In my opinion, it’s much nicer than Eugene, and it’s not particularly close.
