There were a couple of interesting coaching moves last night late in the Purdue-Northwestern game. One good, one bad.
The bad one? Late in the game it was obvious Northwestern was going to have to foul. It was a dead ball and one of the NW players had 4 fouls. But the coach left him in. He committed the intentional foul and fouled out. It seems like Coaching 101 to sub him out and bring him back after the foul.
Matt Painter did something I have never seen before. Braden Smith was going to the line to shoot 3 free throws. Painter calls CJ Cox over and draws something up on the white board while Smith is shooting.
Then between free throws 2 and 3, Cox gathers the team and passes on what the coach told him. It was like a free time out.
