Good response as usual. A couple quick comments:
This season's freshman class was the best and deepest in many years. There are three players that would be a #1 pick most years and there may be a record for the most freshmen taken in the first round. The previous season's freshman class (other than Duke's recruits) did not have nearly the impact.
I would not use USC as an example of good recruiting. Although his recruits may have lots of stars, the roster has been so unstable that there is virtually a new team every year. Unlike Cronin, he also recruits head cases like Baker-Mazara who have been at four or five schools. Not a winning strategy.
