I’d put Dugs firmly in the “unsung hero” category. Her versatility really stands out, she can score inside and out, work the drop step, and then step back and knock down a three. Outside of Gabs, she was probably my second favorite player on that championship team.
On a separate note, I think their international experience made a significant impact on both of them. For Gabs especially, playing with Team Mexico put her in the role of a primary option, and she had real success against older, more seasoned competition. When she returned to UCLA, she carried herself differently, no longer viewing herself as just a role player. I’m less familiar with Dugs’ time with the Serbian team, but if I recall correctly, she also had some standout performances there as well.
I’ll admit I haven’t ever watched a full WNBA game, just a few minutes of Caitlin Clark to see how her game translated, so I don’t feel fully qualified to predict who will thrive at that level. That said, given their skill sets and competitiveness, it’s easy to see both of them finding success there.
