Profit = The financial gain when total revenue exceeds total costs.
In this case the expenditures refer to what the player was paid by the school. Since it's most or all NIL which is not paid by the school, it's mostly or all profit.
You don't understand the point. Athletic departments are in the hole due to expenditures for other items, not these high paid players.
