Jalen Brunson. I remember hearing many of the same criticisms about Brunson coming out of college: lacks lateral quickness, not overly athletic, and questions about whether he could consistently guard guys in the NBA. I think it’s a more appropriate comparison because they play the same position and have a similar body type and build. Perry is taller.
Obviously, I’m not saying Perry is going to be Jalen Brunson. Brunson is an elite player and has proven himself at the highest level. But if we’re talking strictly about the college game, I think the comparison is worth considering.
Brunson showed that you don’t necessarily have to have ideal size or elite athleticism to be highly effective at the point guard position if you have the skill, strength, feel, and ability to control the game.
That’s why I’m not nearly as concerned about Perry’s physical limitations at the college level. He may have to be creative defensively, and there will certainly be matchups where his quickness is an issue, but I'm hopeful we'll be alright there.
