From Wooden: A Coach's Life:

"When they ran through his fast break drill, the dribbler always stopped at the foul line, and thw two wing players cut to the basket at a fourty-five degree angle. When the pass was made, the players had the option always - to finishing a layup or pulling up for a shot, bhey were always - to use the backboard."

He also insisted that no dribbler could get the ball up the court as fast as a pass. He wanted fast-breaks where the ball never touched the floor.
