My first thought was, man, San Diego is really well coached. Given our experience with Chesney, I'd say this is a guy worth keeping an eye on.
A few other thoughts on the game:
Perry: I see some people weren't impressed with what they saw, but I thought he had a pretty good game.
Philon: He continues to impress me. I'd go as far as to say that, right now, I enjoy watching him out there more than Kustu. I expect that could change as the season progresses, but at this point, I'm liking Philon.
Kustu: Speaking of Kustu, have I mentioned that he can't shoot? 😂 Don't get me wrong, I like him. He does a lot of other things really well, and I actually liked seeing him and Philon on the floor together. Kustu is a terrific passer, and I'd love to see him look to penetrate more, either getting to the rim or creating opportunities for others. If he continues to settle for jump shots, that could become a detriment to the team.
Petty: He hasn't been the scorer I was hoping he'd be so far. I'm still waiting for that part of his game to show up consistently.
Williams: It looks to me like he's going to be Cronin's whipping boy this year. I don't like seeing him get pulled at the first mistake while other guys are allowed to play through theirs. I think we need the physicality he brings, and I'd like to see Cronin give him a little more room to work through his mistakes.
Dailey: He pulled another disappearing act. I was hoping we'd see more from him.
Booker: Same goes for Booker. He had such a nice game last week that I came into this one with pretty high expectations. Especially disappointed with his rebounding.
Overall, I came away from this game a little less optimistic than I was going in. If Booker and Dailey are going to give us performances like that, I'm not sure our ceiling is much higher than it was last year. We need more consistent production from those two if this team is going to take a meaningful step forward.
