'Twas the night before tipoff, when all through the nation
Hoops fans were waiting with wild anticipation.
The baskets were hung from the backboards with care,
With the knowledge that layups soon would be there.
The students were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of slam dunks danced in their heads;
And Ma in her jersey, and I in my hat,
Dreamt of great Bruin play right off the bat.
I had just sat down and opened a beer,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But Nikola and Filip and eight brand new Bruins.
I could swear I could hear the voice of Josh Lewin.
With a little old bald guy, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be Coach Mick.
More rapid than eagles his players they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now, Jalen! Now, Book! Now, Stink! Now Sergej!
On, Brandon! On Trent, On Gunnars, and on E-Day!
To the top of the standings! to the Final Four!
Let's hang a banner above Wooden Floor!"
The lights of Pauley blazed bright in the night,
The court gleamed like gold under spotlight so bright,
The roar of the students shook rafters above,
A cathedral of hoops, a place Bruins love.
With steals and deflections they drove the fans wild.
They brought joy to every man, woman, and child.
After each basket came a rise in the din.
As every fan knows, you spell "fun": W-I-N.
Was it all just a dream, or the beginning?
Is it the time for a season of winning?
And as we all dream of leaving other teams in ruins,
Happy tipoff to all, and to all -- GO BRUINS!
