Whether a fan supports a team no matter what or only as a fair weather fan, it's because they are getting something that they equivalate to value out of it. Whether it's being a part of a winning season or family/relationships/traditions/community/etc., it's all transactional. You are paying both in time and money for something that you believe provides value to your life, and if someone no longer feels that it is providing value commensurate with the time and money they are expending, why the hell should they feel obligated to continue doing it? You obviously are still finding value, so that's your transaction. Others decided they no longer did and you want to judge and shame them for that? Fine, but don't pretend like you are playing by some different set of rules. If one day you decide that following UCLA and attending games is no longer fun and adding value to your life are you going to continue going? If so why? Sense of duty or obligation, and if so, obligation to who and what?
