If ucla hires Tony Whote, it’s not because he’s black. It will be because it was someone who wanted the job and was a UCLA. With all the huge jobs that were open this year, he didn’t get a sniff.
If you wanted an elite D guy, Manny Diaz seems like the guy and he’s been a HC at a major program. I don’t want a D guy. It’s not 1974 anymore. If you hire a D guy, who’s gonna be his OC? Hard to get a good OC (most are HC or looking for HC jobs). Plus as soon as you get a good OC he’s gone the next year (as a HC). You need to lock in an offensive mind as HC, because offense wins unless you’re Kirby Smart and his stable of horses.
But yeah, I think White is the guy. He’s only making 1.6mm so 5mm gets him the job and ucla can get off cheap. Typical UCLA.
