Well Jarmond made it clear to Chip that recruiting and NIL is a priority. It's safe to assume he made that requirement clear during the interview too. Jarmond asked for 4 days, he made his decision in 2. DF must've convinced Jarmond that he doesn't have Chip's attitude toward those two responsibilities.
It's unfair to bring up past failed coaches. There were no NIL and transfer portal back then. Our athletic department was also in a different financial situation. Dorrell was always more of a square corporate guy than a HC. Mora and Neu were great recruiters but poor play-callers and developers. To make it sound like the end of UCLA football with this hire before he even had his first practice is harsh. I am just glad Jarmond didn't go over to the dark side and hire a scum like Pete or Urban Meyer.
