Id never heard of the podcast (im not a podcast guy), but they spoke for an extended period on UCLA. As everyone knows all ucla info over the past few years that got out was because of the close chip/feldman relationship. In essence Feldman has been chips mouthpiece. So I wanted to hear his take.
Chip unlikely to a be HC again at a real college program. Wanted NFL, but no takers. Tosu is perfect landing spot because all he as to do scheme. Chip is a casualty of the changing world of college sports.
Fleck — Jarmond traveled to Cabo to speak with him. Fleck making same money as Chip. And he doesn’t have a winning 10 record. Plus not a ucla vibe, but he obviously didn’t take job. He seemed to be target #1.
JTF — wanted LA and would have been the HC before UW. But once he got UW job, Ucla wasn’t in the cards and UW is a better job now.
Foster — when Foster left to go Raiders, he went to dinner with MJ. Foster asked MJ if he had a shot if Chip left. Sounds like everyone knew Chip was gone. MJ said no he wanted someone who had AT LEAST been a coordinator. To say Feldman was lukewarm on the hire is kind.
Feldman say Garbers was one of best QBs in 10 had Chip stayed. Now, who knows.
Feldman says Wasserman is the key but the agent being your top donor is a very sticky situation.
My take away based on Feldman. Nobody wanted the job from the outside so he had to circle to someone. I’m guessing KNJ was also a candidate and MJ chose DF. It’s not a coincidence that KNJ took an NFL the day of thr announcement.
