This is a true story, told to us years ago by Tom, who later became a care giver to our cats.
When LBJ was POTUS, Lynda Bird was getting married in the White House. Presents were being delivered and taken to the basement.
A delivery vehicle hit one of LBJ's dogs, inflicting serious injuries. The dog was taken to the basement and the White House Veterinarian on Duty was ordered to report immediately.
Tom was the D.V.M on duty at the time and rushed to the White House to give emergency care. While he was examining the dog, who should appear but LBJ himself.
There wasn't much going on in or around the White House that LBJ didn't know about, so his rapid appearance was no surprise. Tom explained that the dog had already passed on, but LBJ wasn't having any of that and started berating Tom, calling into question his qualification and competence.
Under this grilling Tom could sense the sweat on his face as well as feel it running down his back as LBJ was known to have made grown men cry.
Then from out of nowhere Lynda Byrd appeared, put her face in front of her fathers and shouted, "Daddy, the God Damm dog is dead"! To Tom's surprise LBJ assumed the demeanor of a scolded puppy, then walked away without saying another word.
I'm using this story to make a point. CDF is our head football coach, so it's time to stop agonizing over it and see what unfolds.
