"Yeah, but" as your paraphrase goes, is not an insult. It's a comment on the resources we need to win consistently. Responses to mine were condescending to the prior regime, and that's where you jump in with the other posters here who have an impulsive need to dump on Chip.
In their minds, when Chip was hired they were promised the Blur, shiny helmets and football dominance. When they didn't get that, their pain was obvious. Out came the knives.
This is all a symptom of how these posters frame Ucla football in their minds, which in turn is owing to how they've been programmed by their media (BRO, LAT, Morgan Center). The root cause of the problems we face is Morgan Center and the institution of Ucla, not a coach.
My suspicion is Foster will not move the needle on the field or in recruiting. The recruiting needle moving will all be done by Andy Meyers of MoW and his fundraising campaign.
Pathetically, we have lacked a coordinated, football-focussed NIL strategy until now. That puts us 4(?) years behind the SEC programs and the other contending teams. We'll see if our new NIL initiative makes a difference. Re-signing Toia is a positive sign, but if our NIL resources don't multiply, Foster will not be an effective recruiter in the portal or at the HS (JV) level. Money talks.
Posters here disregard the new world we're in where on-the-table money talks. Chip had no money. That's because we've had a disorganized NIL-football campaign and because Morgan Center resisted NIL from its inception (their first take was "is it legal???"), retarding its growth while seeking to defend their WAF sources. We fell way behind. The department also went bankrupt during Chip's tenure, so further financial restrictions put us further behind the top programs who have tons of money. We lost our DC to one of these programs.
Chip had to use what meager NIL he had in the portal not in the HS (JV) market. So, naturally, Blur obsessed, disillusioned, brainwashed posters called him lazy. Stupid.
All of the above goes to the larger point that Ucla generally and Morgan Center specifically are our problem. They are an incompetent mess. Elite? My ass.
Since Chancellor Young left, Ucla can't compete in an open college football market and it shows. Morgan Center went bankrupt because they became your typical bureaucratic government run program, wholly dependent upon endless sources of unaccountable government funding. They were eventually sold out bankruptcy to the B10.
The next chapter in their blundering saga awaits. Expect more of the same, with more staff, bigger pensions and greater rewards for the Morgan Center morons.
Good luck to Foster but the predicate to his success is the money that Andy Meyers raises, not pom poms, gland-handing, Friday night lights and a stupid spring "game" with no real hitting or tackling.
