He signed the contract in January 2022 that ran until Dec. 2025. The 2025 term is irrelevant because of the 2023 end of the buyout. Here's how that key element was described:
"Kelly and UCLA could each back out with no financial repercussions starting Dec. 16, 2023, effectively making that the target date for the two sides to come to terms on another extension."
The LA Bowl was Dec. 16, 2023. The two sides didn't come to terms in a subsequent meeting, meaning Ucla was unwilling to further its commitment to Kelly. In effect, Ucla was ending its commitment. Ipso facto, Chip was fired.
There isn't much left to say about it. The facts are clear. Ucla screwed the pooch. Again.
