Even if the 247Sports Ucla Parasite pumps up these stories, the national players will go to big money programs, not Ucla. No change from the previous regime, just more PR, which the parasitic Bruin media loves.
The reason Ucla should recruit top local and maybe some national HS players is to get them on the rebound as transfers. HS is the new JV in the portal era. As you point out, very few actually contribute as true freshmen (see Dante Moore disaster) and of those few that do, many put themselves on the market again. It's a good investment but one that won't payoff right away.
