I saw LaVar's first game as a freshman at North Hills High School in suburban Pittsburgh. He played both ways -- running back and linebacker -- from Day 1. He was a great, great running back, yet on occasion he'd take a play off. On defense, he gave 100% on every play. I saw LaVar I in a game at Ohio Stadium in which he jumped completely over the center at the snap and tackled the QB, Joe Germaine, at about the time he got the ball. Never say anyone pull that one off before or since. Penn State got their butts kicked, yet LaVar I was the best player on the field that day. No surprise his kid picked Penn State. But, LaVar I is a Penn State legend. The kid has a lot to live up to.
