This is THE topic for Bruin fans because our endemic incompetence in football will visibly degrade the program. We are on the bubble. We could get our act together and survive as a part of NFL, Jr., or Morgan Center can remain the DMV of college football and we could fall back to D2 status, effectively.
None of the opinions or predictions considered the strong likelihood that the mothers milk of college athletics, the cable bundle carriage fees, will begin to dry up as consumers continue “cord cutting” and move to streaming video.
It will get vastly more expensive to watch CFB which means the audience, CFB fandom, will shrink. $50+ a game isn’t beyond reason. The programs with heft and brands will survive, others will shrink back to some version of the Patriot League. “TV market” will lose meaning and Ucla will lose its lone remaining calling card to stay in D1.
We need to get the program away from Morgan Center before it’s too late.
