Chip left only after the chance to work with Day opened up. That accounts for the timing. He had been interviewing, but apparently to no avail until then. Had that job not opened in Ohio Chip may have stayed, using his plan B alternative which would be to coach Ucla in 2024, letting the chips fall where they may thereafter.

Isn't it so illustrative of the incompetence of Morgan Center that Jarmond was on vacation when the fate of his most important revenue source hung in the balance? Do you see how ridiculously incompetent that is? Can you imagine, for example, the CEO of a publicly traded company failing to take care of the crown jewel of his company as priority #1 in real time? Do you see that Morgan Center's bureaucratic insulation sustains a stifling incompetence that is the root cause of Ucla's mediocrity in football for 20+ years?

If Ucla wanted Chip out, they should've fired him in December after the bowl game. But that would've cost them $4mm, so they tried to finesse the situation. They showed Chip the door but didn't shove him through it to save $4mm.

The top programs in the country don't behave this way. They fire the coach and eat the buyout. Guerrero's failure to do this effectively was a big contributor to Morgan Center going bankrupt. Since they're operating under debtor in possession bankruptcy, Ucla has to watch every nickel. They grow weaker as the field of competitors grows stronger.

Fans need to focus their thinking on the fact that Morgan Center went bankrupt. This is a key perception change necessary to get the kind of leadership we need. Going bankrupt cost Guerrero his job, not the poor showing of the football program.

When you think about Morgan Center and it's skill level, remember, these are the people who have destroyed a once mighty football program. Never assume they know what they're doing, they don't. The Chip episode is just the latest installment in their long history of incompetent failure.

As fans, we need to start focusing out criticism on Morgan Center. Behind every great football program is a great football administration. We have the DMV of CFB.

We must have better leadership if we are to survive the ongoing consolidation in CFB.
