"Kelly sucked at recruiting". This needs to be normalized versus his competition. Since Ucla had the lowest recruiting budget in the newly reformed B10 last year, we can probably assume it had paltry NIL resources to add to that. We can deduce, then, that Kelly had the smallest amount of money with which to acquire talent.

He wisely used his meager resources in the portal. And he did exceedingly well. Latu, the Murphs, Muasau, Oledajio, JMike, and a host of other recent talents came to us because Kelly was early into the portal. It took him too long (IMO) but using the portal he eventually built one of the top defenses in the nation, even while playing in a conference with the 3 or the top 5 offenses in the nation.

Fans here are mostly "star-struck" by the star ranking hype that has surrounded HS recruiting for 15 years now and pushed by the click-hungry Bruin media parasites. Other than 5 stars, there is no predictive value to the other star ranks, 4 stars and below. It's noise, not signal.

So, when the Bruin media tell you Chip sucks at recruiting keep in mind they're selling you hype to keep you clicking and they're downplaying the significance of Chip's successes in the portal, a new feature of the CFB landscape that threatens their existing star-based clicks business model.

The portal has demoted stars-based HS recruiting to JV recruiting. It's decidedly not nearly as important as portal recruiting is now, and the Bruin parasites are fighting that reality with all they have. It's one reason they lined up unilaterally to oppose Chip.

Kelly "lost his drive to be the leader of the program". What evidence can you offer here? Without evidence this is just another of the imaginary thoughts that go for posts on this stubbornly stupid board.

I will stipulate that I don't know whether this is correct or false. All I can see is the quantifiable evidence that Chip was competing for talent with little money and that his contract wasn't extended in December 2023. So he left when Day's OC job opened up. I have no idea how he "felt" about being the head coach and I seriously doubt you do either.

Chip put the shattered Ucla football program back together and he did it in innovative ways. Brainwashed dopes on this board have been told by their media sources to disregard that and instead criticize Chip's JV recruiting, so that's exactly what they did and continue to do.
